Deed 4

For the forth and final good deed, we were given another individual in the class. I got Colleen Innis. I know her fairly well and we are good friends, but I had no idea what she would want. I didn't want to disappoint.
I always see her drinking coffee, and I remember hearing how much she loves coffee. So I went out and bought her a coffee cup and a ten dollar gift to Starbucks. This morning I found Alex Svanascini and gave him the gift to give to her. She was very excited when she got it.
One thing that I learned from this is that in this season of giving it is just as satisfying as receiving. From this whole assignment I have realized how easy it is to do an act of kindness. I will deffinitely be doing this more often in the future.

Deed 3

For the third deed we had to help a stranger in our community. Although they are not strangers, my new neighbors Bob and Tracy just moved in next door about six months ago. Tracy had a baby two months ago and her name is Sophie. Bob works late hours on week days.
 One day I saw Tracy walking to her mailbox, and I asked her if there was anything she needed. She told me she had to run out and get groceries, and she asked me if i could watch Sophie. Fortunately for me, the baby was asleep and I only had to watch her for thirty minutes, but I didn't feel like I had done enough. When Tracy got home I asked if I could help her hang up her Christmas lights and she agreed. After I finished hanging the lights she offered to pay me but I reluctantly declined her offer.
From this experience I learned that doing small things can be a big help to busy people. I also learned how to volunteer my time even when money is offered. I look forward to helping my neighbors in the future.

Deed #2

For the second card, I decided the member of my family I would choose was my grandmother. She lives in Oak Lawn with my aunt. She is also very weak, and has trouble walking. They are my mom's mother and sister respectively.
Normally when I go to her house I help her anyways, but this time was different because my aunt was out of town on a vacation. It was also different because my grandma wanted to get out her Christmas decorations. While I was there I carried up the Christmas tree and boxes of decorations from her basement. I helped her decorate the tree and fill her house with other festive decorations. I also hung Christmas lights outside and hung wreaths.
From this I learned that your family will always love you for the big and little things that you do. Also that a little hard work and dedication can have any task done quickly and effectively. My grandmother was very pleased with the job that I did, and even though in the beginning I didn't want to be there, I left very pleased as well.

Deed 1

An Envelope and a Box

As I first found out about the good deeds project, I was anxious to see who I would receive. A teacher? A friend? An enemy? I placed my card into the pile and reached to pull a name. I opened the ace of diamonds to find Na Lynch-Shaw's name written inside. Now of course I had known Na for the past year and a half, but I had no idea what sort of a deed to do for her. Naturally, I turned to her boyfriend for help. He told me that her favorite thing to do was watch movies, and that she loved strawberry fruit snacks. I thought it would be easy enough to buy her an AMC gift card and a box of fruit snacks, but what would I really gain from that? And how would that help her? I decided that I would find that out later on. So Friday morning I had a mutual friend of ours hand her a box of fruit snacks with an envelope taped to the front. Our friend later told me that she was happy to get the fruit snacks, but even more excited when she opened the envelope to find $25 to AMC Theaters. It was only then that I realized that I had made someones day, and in return her satisfaction had made my day.
